The North Carolina Caucus of Black School Board Members will hold its Fall Retreat and Issues Forum at N.C. A&T this Thursday through Saturday, October 3-5. The theme of the conference is “Reclaiming Public Education: The Civil Rights Issue of Our Time.”
“With North Carolina at a crossroad, and no longer a national model for educa-tional progress, our challenge as school board members and stakeholders is to continue to advocate for transformative leadership, thoughtful governance and civic engagement,” the event brochure states.
Speakers will include Justice Cheri L. Beasley of the N.C. Supreme Court; state Rep. Garland Pierce; Christopher Hill, director of the Education and Law Project of the North Carolina Justice Center; and Dr. Forrest Toms, associate professor in A&T’s Department of Leadership Studies.
The event will run from Thursday evening through Saturday morning at the Alumni Foundation Events Center. Sponsors include N.C. A&T, the Department of Leadership Studies, and the Guilford County Schools.
