What we’ll lose if we lose the post office: Washington Post and NPR feature Rubio’s views

Congratulations to Dr. Philip Rubio of the Department of History, who gained some major exposure in the national media in the past few days.  Rubio wrote an op-ed column for The Washington Post that appeared Friday July 29:

“In the past week, the financially struggling USPS announced that it is targeting nearly 3,700 post offices for possible closure, including 32 locations in the Washington area. This move comes on top of other cutbacks in postal jobs and facilities. … But post offices everywhere, whether retail or full service, are not just sources of jobs. Losing postal jobs and post offices means losing community.”

The full column is available on the Post website; by Tuesday it had generated an impressive 178 comments.  Rubio had another big-time opportunity to present his views on NPR’s Talk of the Nation on Monday.
